Brazil has some of the largest iron ore deposits in the world, which have been heavily mined since the 1950s. Tailings dams are built to contain the waste generated by iron mining and they have been an increasingly visible feature of Brazils mines since the 1970s.
Carajas is the worlds largest iron ore mine located in the state of Para in Northern Brazil. Carajas is Brazil39;s largest iron ore mine. The volcanic sequence has been weathered to a depth of between 100m and 150m. Komatsu intends to deploy 37 autonomous haul trucks at the Carajas mine by 2024.
